A Sense of Place

This project was about trying to capture the atmosphere of different places. There is a strong sense of nostalgia as I created this work when I was away at university in Leeds, recollecting my favourite places in London and also recording places in Leeds that I would miss after graduating. I have designed wallcoverings and fabrics for the interiors market, aimed at older children to young adults. The wallpaper designs are in technical repeat and are ready to be manufactured as working wallpapers. I have also created fabrics that could be used for cushions, blinds, curtains or upholstery. I printed these for my graduate show on a linen/cotton mix fabric, which feels soft to touch but is hardwearing. All my work is digitally printed but is designed to have a screen-printed aesthetic so I try to limit the number of colours in each design, using strong black lines and the bitmap function on Adobe Photoshop to create texture and tonal variation. The work features fresh, bright colours in anticipation of SS15 colour trends and has a playful, quirky feel.

Cartoon Street

This wallpaper design features buildings found on my street which I walk past everyday. The colourful, bright illustrations show the nature of memory and how we remember places that are familiar in a glorified, idealistic way. This wallpaper is in technical repeat and is ready to be put into production and use.

Camden Lock Wallpaper

Camden Lock is a place that many people have fond memories of including myself, so I tried to recreate the lively atmosphere of the place in this colourful wallpaper design in a modern take of a toile.

Dog Walkers Wallpaper

The narrative in this wallpaper shows dog walkers and buildings in my local park and has a more muted colour scheme compared to my other designs.

Walking in Leeds

I used to walk past the little illustrated buildings featured in this furnishing fabric on my way to and from Leeds College of Art everyday so it was nice to capture the journey. The colours in this design are inspired by SS15 colour trends reminiscent of soft berry colours and forest foliage.

This cushion design features indian ink illustrations of the main shopping street in Leeds. They are hand painted and the scanned into photoshop and digitally manipulated and made into a pattern. Like most of my graduate collection designs, this was inspired by the scenes of people in L.S. Lowry's paintings.

This design for wallpaper features illustrations of some of the girls in the Leeds College of Art Printed Textiles studio. The drawings were created using indian ink and black fine liner. I chose this green to add a pop of colour so that the design is bold but doesn't dominate the room.

Friends Cushion

I had the idea for this cushion when I was a little bit homesick for my friends in my hometown so I had the idea of making a personalised cushion so you can always keep your friends near when you go away travelling or move to another city. Like all my designs, this one features very detailed illustration.
